Hey folks - now that Stumptown is over, and it's still light out at 7:30, and nobody from the cast of original Star Trek has died recently, and Iron Man was actually pretty enjoyable and there are strawberries available for under $5 a pound and Season 2 of 30 Rock is over and just pick your reason but it is TIME FOR MAY SALON!
This Wednesday! 7pm to 11pm! The usual place! Come marvel at the last Salon featuring Anne Elizabeth Moloney as house resident, and Patrick Farley as mere guest rather than resident co-host, god help him! Bury your face in comparatively affordable fresh produce! Exchange those minicomics that you finished after Stumptown! Bitch about the primaries!
Alright, that's all my enthusiasm right there. You know the score, c'mon over, bring a snack or a beverage if you have one handy, and come enjoy a pretty spring evening with your fellow nerds. Guests always welcome.

Hey kids! Salon is on for tonight at the usual time and place! There will be free comic books and out of town visitors!
Being as we are smack in between St Patrick's Day and Easter, I dunno, bring potatoes? or chocolate.
Only please not in the same dish.

Hey kids! Don't forget - Salon, this Wednesday (that's tomorrow, or more likely, today). 7pm at the usual spot - I'll have tomato soup again for group consumption, but please bring veggies, beverages, or other good snacks for the snacking on!
Nom nom nom.

Heyyyy kids!
I hope you are all enjoying this brief taunting day of spring weather. We know that, soon enough, the Pacific Northwest will come back to its senses, and we will once more be blanketed in a thin gray drizzle.
When that happens, Salon will be ready!
I am unfortunately going to be in Anchorage AK this Wednesday, so you are off the hook for this week. HOWEVER, the following Wednesday, FEBRUARY 20th, will be the full celebration of THE WORST SALON OF THE YEAR (WEATHER-WISE THAT IS).
Come with your Gore-Tex! Come with your therapeutic light boxes! Come with your red wine and your unhealthy starches! Come with your high-fiving over the writer's strike probably being done! Come with your amazement over how totally @#(*^@ awesome the Stumptown guest list for this year is!
There will again be yummy tomato bisque for the eating. Bring a side dish or some veggies!
WHERE: The usual WHEN: 7pm - 11(ish) BRING: food or drink if convenient, otherwise, you! and any suitably lovely guest.
I will see you there, kids! And if you want something from Alaska, now's your chance. (Sadly they do not allow live game on the plane.)

Hey there everybody -
- this Wednesday the 16th is the first Salon of 2008!
It sucks outside. It sucks really bad. That is why there will be food and drink and warmth and cats inside of this house. All for you! There will perhaps be some form of stew. Or soup. It will be delicious if I have anything to do with it.
Also Anne will finally be back from Texas! Let us welcome her back into our soggy but well-cultured Portland arms.
See you here! 7pm start as usual.

Hey kids - don't forget that tonight is the night for the last Salon of 2007!
Bring along something that is fun to consume (the kitchen is available if you have something you want to warm up), and I'll see you alongside the DVD fireplace starting at 7pm. Guests welcome!

So: as people who've come to Salon before know, I like to give away my good duplicate graphic novels there. Right now, I've got so many of 'em that I can't even carry them all over. So here's a list of duplicates I've got on hand. If there are any you'd like, please drop a line to salonpdx at-sign douglaswolk period com (not a comment here); if more than one person asks for a particular one, I'll try to apportion them equitably. You gotta come to Salon this week to pick up the ones you want, though...
( The list follows, under the cut. )

Hey all!
Due to some unexpected contractor delays, our living room is currently full of drywall bits and exciting power tools! This is not generally considered to be conducive to pleasant social gatherings, unless you're into that sort of thing.
The result is that this month's Salon is taking the form of a Thanksgiving Day Open House Potluck Fun Time Tryptophan Glee Party.
Whether you're dinner party-hopping or looking for your One True Thanksgiving Home, come on over to the usual place and enjoy the comforts of:
- the crowdpleasing DVD Fireplace! - lap-slut tabby cats! - Bill preparing a turkey - WILL IT INVOLVE OPEN FLAMES?! - mashed potatoes with more garlic and butter than is advisable! - mulled beverages galore! - more crispy asparagus than even Anne can handle! - a reverent screening of The Iron Giant, voted best animated movie of all time by everybody worth knowing! Also maybe some Looney Tunes! - a grueling upstairs/downstairs homemade pie-off as Jenn and Dylan cross piemaking swords! - possible side trips to other happenin' Portland dinner parties!
Hours are still tentative, so stay tuned as we hammer out the details of when the doors will open, when main dinner items will be served, and when we are watching the hell out of some sentimental cartoons! RSVPs and food contributions are massively appreciated, but any and all are welcome to come. And as usual, if somebody fabulous is not on this e-mail, just send 'em my way.

Hey folks - if you didn't get the e-mail, my bad, but a reminder that tonight is:
OCTOBER ZOMBIE SALON POTLUCK OF DOOM
 Zombies love pie!
So Weekly Salon is dead... ...but MONTHLY SALON rises from the grave, and it wants to eat your brains!
Or your baked brie and cracker assortment. Whichever comes first.
Come on over to the usual place and bring along a favorite autumn dish or beverage for OCTOBER SALON.
The format is mostly the same - a bunch of nerds in a living room listening to music, talking about comics, arguing over zombie movies, and goading the cats - but now it's a monthly potluck and shindig, held on the Wednesday closest to the 15th.
If your foodtribution requires cooking or heating up, never fear, our kitchen is fully stocked (and now in an exciting shade of red!). It doesn't have to be homemade, fancy, or feed a crowd - just bring something yummy and autumnal. We'll provide hot mulled cider and some food items of our own. And even if you can't stop by the store, everybody's welcome.
So drag your rotting corpse up Hawthorne tonight!
----
OR, if autumn pies seem kind of, uh, boooooring, or if you've only got an hour of potluck in you, make sure to go hit up Dr.Sketchy's Burlesque Lifedrawing tonight, where one Erika Moen will be hotting up the stage with her Tankgirl poses!
Erika is kind of the best female model I've ever gotten to draw, because she knows from twist, does poses that are punky and adventurous and actually fun and useful to draw, because doesn't suffer from the "oh, I must be the prettiest little odalisque" syndrome that many less experienced or less totally awesome lady models do. In short, she is a badass, and you should go give her tips.
I am a total numbskull for scheduling this at the same time, but it means that you, Portland, officially have NO excuse for staying home this evening. NONE.
NOT A GODDAMN ONE.

Hey all! I imagine we're all pretty burned out from comics-related socializing, so general amnesty is declared: no Salon this week.
Also, beginning this month, Salon's gonna be going to a monthly schedule - there's enough going on in the general community, and folks finally have enough reason to see each other on a regular basis, that it'll be more fun to have a once-a-month potluck/shindig that everybody can mark on their calendar.
(also, Stumptown meetings have made me ready to have my living room back for awhile.)
I'm hoping that Periscope will start up lifedrawing again soon, and between that, Drink 'n Draw, and our own inventiveness, we'll all have sufficient weekly excuses to trade dance partners.
Sound good? I hope so. Is there a week in the month that people prefer? Last Wednesday? Wednesday closest to the 15th of any month? First Wednesday? I'm inclined towards the middle Wednesday, because that means it's the hump day of the hump part of the month, and that's right about when everybody needs a glass of wine.
Lastly - hey Bill, think you could mail this out to folks?

TONIGHT - the Stumptown work party to end all Stumptown work parties! (at least for this year.)
Do you have hands with which to operate a button-making machine? The guts to stamp a paper bag? The desire to acquire a bunch of last minute posters? Or do you just have a bunch of weird little picky things to do in order to prepare your OWN wares?
Then we'll see you tonight - usual time, usual place! The next time we have Salon, we'll all be very tired and sick of each other, so let's enjoy the comraderie while we can.

No Salon this week. Dylan's out of town and I feel like mild, low-level death.

Salon per tradition this evening! There will be a little Stumptown stuff on the fringe, but otherwise it is good old fashioned goofing off.
(thank heavens)
This is totally my first Salon as a 24 year-old. I know you will all be intimidated by my worldly sophistication.

Hey folks!
Salon is indeed on tonight (sorry for the posting forgetfulness) - although I suspect the ranks will be thinned due to Bioshock. (if you need to ask, you don't need to know.)

Salon is on for this evening! I got four hours of sleep last night (CURSE YOU COMICS), so I am going to order some damn food in, buy some nice drinking fluids, and consume it in the pretty, pretty backyard. There is also a bar of very nice chocolate and an obscene number of ice cream products in the kitchen, waiting to be dispensed!

Salon tonight! Dylan is back from music camp, so the agenda tonight is "tease Dylan about going to music camp."
Also, please bring your con stories, stories so vivid I can smell the stank...
